Writing and English Tutor, ESL tutor, private and group classes. Spanish language tutor, private and group classes. I have both a formal and informal knowledge of Spanish. I have a minor in Spanish and also lived in South America for two years, where I mastered more idiomatic and informal speaking. Graduating from Birmingham-Southern College with a B.A. in English and spending almost two years teaching English, I have tutoring experience and am extremely passionate about helping others communicate well. While at Birmingham-Southern, I worked through various writing means—creative, journalistic and investigative work. The English department awarded me with the Patricia Finley Watkins Scholarship, an excellence-in-writing award, and I am passionate about research. I created my own provost-approved class exploring a theme that I had been investigating. Words fascinate me, from the wording of a text or email, which can change one’s impression based on one word-choice, to a complex research paper. I have spent hours teaching ESL students not only the meaning of one word, but the connotation that comes with that word and the appropriate context to use it in. I am dedicated and love working with people and helping them expand their communication skills, whether that be in English or Spanish.

I love working with all different types of people, from young kids to adults. I am passionate about language, learning, and communication. Learning to read, write, and communicate well opens up a whole new world. I love being outside, rain or shine, and spending time with my puppy.
